Celtic’s Development side will face Albion Rovers at Cliftonhill on August 9 as part of their build up to the new season.

Tommy McIntyre’s squad will also play in the SuperCupNI on July 21 and 23 against Real Sociedad and Everton or Espanyol.

The trip to Coatbridge will provide the players with a competitive edge against opponents well into their season with the BetFred League Cup starting on July 16.

Rovers finished last season in sixth place in League One just two points behind Stranraer who clinched a play-off spot.

Former Celt Billy Stark is assistant manager to Derek Young who has revitalised the Coatbridge side in his first managerial role.

Speaking about his success in management Young said: “I had a decision to make – to keep playing and travelling down the road, or I could try to find a club that’s closer to home.

I had two offers to become an assistant manager – one was from my brother at Albion Rovers, and the other was from a higher division club – but after the last three years of travelling up and down the road, it was too much for me.

When I spoke to Dick Campbell about signing for Forfar, one of the big attractions was that it’s just 35 minutes from my house. That’s a huge difference, compared to travelling from three-and-a-half hours to get to a home game.

Dick must have phoned me about 30 times, he was that keen to get me to come to them, and that convinved me very quickly.

It’s been difficult over the last three years, as I’ve been up north until the Thursday, then travelling down for training and to play on Saturdays. When you’ve got a young family, it’s a bit of a strain being away from them for a big part of the week.”

Celtic visited Albion Rovers a number of times a decade ago to play in the Jock Stein Friendship Cup with the hoops last winning the trophy in 2010 with a penalty shoot out success after a 3-3 draw.

CELTIC: 2010 Feely (Thomson 60); O’Donnell, Gallagher, Hughes (Jones 64) , Brennan; Bagshaw, F Twardzik (Chalmers 85); Ordish (Feruz 45) , Keatings (Irvine 78), McGgregor; Gormley (Atajic 51)

Which of these five defenders will Brendan sign first?
