If there is such a thing as nervous confidence Celtic fans have it in buckets today!
With the countdown to tonight’s match in Israel well underway hoops fans worldwide are looking at the Champions League group stage again after two sobering seasons on Thursday night duty.
The last 24 months in European football have been brutal- the confidence of 2012 has been trashed and destroyed by disappointment after disappointment as the reality of life under Ronny Deila took root.
Throughout last weeks 5-2 win over Hapoel Beer Sheva comparisons were being made to a year ago when the qualifier with Malmo threw up similar challenges- after the return match in Sweden some Celtic fans simply threw up.
Today there is a different feel about things but even a three goal lead isn’t bomb proof.
If Hapoel score first supporters will be edgy, if they go 2-0 up there will be memories of Utrecht away in 2010- if Celtic score first it’ll be passports and cigar time with huddles breaking out in pockets of Scotland and elsewhere in the Celtic family.

@videocelts Celtic at 21/10 is an unbelievable price against a team we pumped 5-2 6 days ago #HaveABangOnThat — Pirlo’s Pubes (@Django_Baws) August 23, 2016
@videocelts no butterflies ….. the rhino stampede has chased them all away/

Starting off with some confidence is always a good sign, but putting Pirlo’s Pubes rent money in the hoops may be a bit risky. He’ll be hoping that Leigh Griffiths is on form, we all win, to allow him to enjoy those winning- perhapd paying for the traditional flight to Barcelona.
I’m already a basket case in anticipation. Am GMT -2, baking and expecting to be frazzled. Celtic always put us through the mill

@videocelts buzzing and nervous mate think it will be 2-0 celtic think the 2 goals we lost where caused by pushing too much at home
— Brian bhoy (@BrianScotsBhoy) August 23, 2016
These two are still in the half full camp even though Bromsgrove Bhoy is anticipating some nervy moments, there usually are, when Celtic are playing for high stakes.
@videocelts a bit nervous but time for clam heads. I’ll happily take a 1-1.

@videocelts im going for a narrow 2-1 defeat????
— Sean Mclaughlin (@seanmac76) August 23, 2016
With the exception of Pirlo’s Pubes almost every Celtic fan will jump at the offer of a 1-1 draw- mixed in with the most boring 90 minutes since Ronny Deila left if it can result in a place in the group phase. A 2-1 defeat? I think that I could live with it.
.
@videocelts 5-3 to home team.

@videocelts 2-2 not sure why but there you go.

@videocelts qualification is required…by any means!

@videocelts early goal, 3-1 win for the Hoops. Work is dragging
— Barry McCann (@Bazzinho9) August 23, 2016
The_ No 7 won’t be too popular in company tonight, the 90 minutes will be nervy enough without a bout of extra-time after losing 5-3!
Any sort of draw will be very welcome while greedy @Bazzinho09 has an eye on the coefficient with some extra points to be snatched from a win over 90 minutes.
