After two years of avoiding the elephant in the room, Stewart Regan was asked by STV about the matter on June 1 following the AGM of the SFA and claimed that all was well at 31st March, ignoring the June 30 deadline.
Regan also stated that the Celtic shareholders, who never questioned this aspect around 31st March in the past, had been satisfied with the explanation to a point they had not raised.
On June 20 STV decided to pick up the story again claiming that Rangers were in the clear! Being in liquidation clears you of lots of things despite STV’s full subscription to the survival myth covering financial meltdown/demotion/relegation.
In-between times UEFA had written to the Resolution 12 people and without prompting, or answering the questions put, explained that they wouldn’t be following up on the matter because the club/company involved were no longer in existence.
Despite the pressure of the June 20 story the Resolution 12 guys refused to respond, they kept the UEFA letter quiet as they considered their position with regard to UEFA’s full response, with STV effectively turning it into a non-story. Not so.
On July 8, through CQN in response from social media pressure to provide an update on the position an extract from the June 8 letter was published confirming that Sevco was a new club/company, On Sunday an extract from that the letter signed by A Traverso, Head of Club Licensing and Financial Fair play surfaced on social media.
STV Sport have provided a service by airing the story, they have covered it with some detail without claiming it as their own campaign. At no time have they been creating Lanarkshire based billionaires.
With new evidence emerging, in most circumstances it would be natural to pick up on a new strand to the story.
On the internet the emphasis is on time, on getting the story out- look at the frenzy to report Palestinian flags at Celtic Park and the likely closure of part of the stadium.
Two days after the leaked letter from UEFA surfaced STV Sport seem to have dropped all interest in the issue. The Herald who ran with the STV version have also been quiet – perhaps some home truths are just too uncomfortable to face?
However, the discrepancy is now out there and the jigsaw is being put together on social media, but in the absence of transparency from the media involved how can a true picture emerge?
Either it is simply a coincidence that STV asked a question that drew the response it did from UEFA Media Department that differed from that supplied by the Head of Club Licensing or the SFA, UEFA and STV are working in cahoots on more damage limitation.
You couldn’t make this up.
