Patrick Roberts has tweeted an optimistic message about his hamstring injury.

Paddy’s Hammy was the low point of last night’s win over Astana that takes Celtic into the play-off phase of the Champions League qualifying campaign.

After troubling the Kazak’s a couple of times the England youth star pulled up with a hamstring strain after 30 minutes and was replaced by Stefan Johansen.

Roberts looked a troubled figure as he sat in the dug out, hopefully it turns out to be a hamstring strain rather than a pull.

The joy of Moussa Dembele’s seemed to dull the pain of his injury however!

With the play-off first leg on August 16/17 Celtic won’t be rushing Roberts back into action with the domestic matches against Hearts and Motherwell certain to be watched from the stand.

Celtic have until August 8 to add to their squad for the play-off matches although a wild card signing is permitted until midnight on the day before the first leg.

After the weekend defeat from Barcelona Brendan Rodgers revealed that in an ideal world he’d like to bring in four new players during the transfer window.

He said: “How many would I like to bring in? Ideally I would like another four. We shall see if that’s do-able. It just takes time. I respect that and understand that.

We’re still a long way away from where I want to be, but I can’t deny the mental strength of the players.

There were some really good moments in this game but the reality is there are going to be other players coming in to help the team. The attitude and energy have been first-class.”
