Preston North End have denied that Joe Garner has been sold to Sevco!

After a week of negotiations Sevco announced at 2.28pm that they had completed the deal with the club website claiming: “RANGERS are delighted to announce the signing of Joe Garner from Preston North End on a three year deal.

The 28 year-old has a wealth of experience at both English Championship and League One level, and arrives having played his part in the Lillywhites securing 11th place in England’s second tier in their first season back at that level with six goals.

That they made it to the Championship at all was largely down to Garner as he hit a total of 27 goals in season 2014/15 where Preston eventually made it up through the play-offs with victory over Wes Foderingham’s Swindon Town.”

Not so according to Preston who quickly tweeted.

Soon after the Ibrox club rolled out Garner explaining his delight at the deal while being pictured in the blue room of dignity.

The signing shambles follows on from the collapse of deal for Joleon Lescott less than a day after Mark Warburton had talked up the move for the former England defender.

While Scottish sources claimed that Lescott had failed a medical or pulled out for family reasons Roberto di Matteo explained that the deal had fallen through due to personal terms.

Having announced that deal to sign Garner the onus is now on Sevco to meet Preston’s terms for the striker who scored six goals last season.

With a going concern warning on their accounts it’s difficult to see where the Scottish Cup runners can come up with over £1m and a three year contract to match that fee.
