Brendan Rodgers has named a shadow side to face Inter Milan tonight with only Emilio Izaguirre surving from the side that beat Motherwell 5-0 in the Betfred Cup.

With Hapoel Beer Sheva coming up on Wednesday the hoops boss has given his big hitters a break ahead of the crunch tie that could book a place in the group phase of the Champions League.

Looking forward to tonight’s match assistant manager Chris Davies said: “It’s a Champions Cup game tonight but that winning mentality is crucial and every moment of the game we will be looking to get the victory and hopefully we can do that moving onto Wednesday night.

The most important things from tonight is that’s going to be a fantastic experience for the younger players in the squad and it will provide some important game-time for coming back from injury, along with those who haven’t had as much game-time as they would have liked. There will be a lot of positives coming out of tonight either way.”

Davies added: “It’s all about the squad for us and everybody helping and working together as anything we do achieve won’t just be down to the players who score the goals or the players on the pitch at that moment, it will be all of us – everybody.

We are trying to create that mentality and atmosphere at the club where the staff and the club are all working together for a common cause. The feeling around it is really good, upbeat and positive and hopefully that continue as we have a big couple of weeks coming up.

It’s really important that we keep that winning feeling going as that stimulates development of players and the team.”
