Sevco have pulled out of a swoop for French defender Rod Fanni.

The 34-year-old is currently out of contract and was believed to be considering offers from Ibrox, Marseilles and Dubai.

Le10 sport reported: “According to our information, Rod Fanni has two very interesting offers, in addition to the Marseille proposal, which revolves around one year contract with a further year option.

The first of the two clubs is none other than the legendary club Glasgow Rangers (Scotland)! The challenge is enticing … The other track is located in Dubai, the most interesting financially, of course. As it stands, OM must sell to complete the back Rod Fanni.”

After being hammered 3-1 at home by Burnley Mark Warburton, who used to work as a city trader, sent out an urgent request for new defenders.

Free agents are the main criteria for the Ibrox side with Dave King keepings the cheque book to his transfer war-chest back in cold storage until January.

Fanni spent the second half of last season on loan to Charlton where he earned rave reviews despite the Londoners being relegated to League One.

Dampening down hopes of a deal however: “Record Sport understands Fanni is not one of the names being considered by the Ibrox club.

Last night there was some welcome news for the Premiership new boys when they whipped Peterhead 5-0 in the Betfred Cup.

New signings Niko Kranjcar and Clint Hill were among the scorers despite the absence of goal machine Martyn Waghorn who will have a scan today on the hamstring he injured against Hamilton on Saturday.
