Michael Stewart believes that Brendan Rodgers has restored belief in the Celtic squad.

The former Hearts and Hibs midfielder watched Celtic overcome set-backs to win against Astana and Hearts with 2-1 scorelines.

Under Ronny Deila the resolve of the Celtic squad was often called into question as they struggled to recover from anything adverse.

Writing in The Sun today Stewart claims: “Do you think Ronny Deila’s side would have won that first league game yesterday at Tynecastle?

Personally, I don’t. Rodgers is already getting more out of these players than the Norwegian manager did over two years.

The Celtic team is now looking to the dugout and thinking, ‘This guy knows what he is doing’.

That breeds confidence and belief. When you need to dig out a winning goal, you feel a lot better if you have full trust in your manager.

You look at Celtic now and you sense that the players believe they can get results late in games.

They did it home and away against Astana and then at Tynecastle. That is not down to luck.”

Stewart’s views are very much in line with the feelings of many Celtic fans who have warmed to the way that Rodgers team is playing the game.

On Sunday Davie Provan said much the same, suggesting that he’d have been surprised if the squad under Ronny Deila made it to the group phase of the Europa League.

While the manager talks upbeat and positively in public there is no doubt that behind the scenes a very serious message is being driven home.
