Keiran Tierney knows that there is one competition that Celtic Park was created for.

Since beating Ajax in 2001 to reach the Champions League group phase the famous ground has taken on an added dimension- with Tierney witnessing most of the big nights.

As a bhoy from Wishaw he watched his hero Shunsuke Nakamura score from an incredible free kick against Manchester United and is now within touching distance of appearing on the same stage.

We want to get back to the Champions League,” he explained. “That would be brilliant. I am still a teenager, and if we could get into the group stages then that would be a dream.

The results didn’t go our way last season, but it was fantastic for me at the time in terms of experience. I would hope those four games last year will help me in these matches.

Wednesday night’s a very important game for everybody here. The Champions League is the place Celtic want to be.

Astana are a tough team to play against, they know what they are going to do and they do it well, as you saw in last year’s Champions League.

We went there and got the away goal, so that was good for us. I remember the last time a team from Kazakhstan was here, James Forrest scored the late winner, and the atmosphere was mad.

I don’t want to think about it too much or get nervous, just take it as it comes. This is a big pressure game and it’s tough going into games like this, especially for me because I am young as well. Hopefully I can cope with it.”
