Many supporters claim to ignore it but figures out today show that Radio Clyde and other local stations across Scotland are growing their audience.

While newspaper sales fall through the floor thanks to the digital onslaught the audience for radio remains solid and in some cases rising.

It’s a long time since Radio Clyde were able to provide match commentaries but with a phone-in five days a week and upto six hours on a Saturday thousands of fans are still tuning in to air their views and argue with the pundits.

Certain subjects seem likely to bring in an early commercial break as old rivalries are played up with the more outrageous callers getting generous air time knowing that they are certain to create a reaction.

The Bauer group covers Radio Clyde, Radio Forth, West Sound, Tay and Borders Radio giving reach across the bulk of the Scottish population.

According to the latest figures released by RAJAR for the second quarter of the year Clyde reached it’s biggest audience since 2004 with listeners also tuning in 6.6% longer. During this period Super Scoreboard delivered a market share of 17.4%.

Commenting on the figures Bauer Radio managing director Graham Bryce said: “Today’s fantastic RAJAR results demonstrate our ongoing commitment to, and passion for, local radio across Scotland. This excellent set of figures shows, once again, that having local knowledge and on the ground expertise delivers exactly what our audiences want to hear.

We continue to ensure we are bringing the best music, sports results and local and national news to our audiences which is why our listeners keep coming back for more.

Our station talent, along with our rich heritage of over 40 years in this sector, guarantee an unparalleled understanding of the market which is particularly reassuring for listeners in times of uncertainty.

Continuing to grow our listener figures in such a competitive space is a real achievement and allows our advertisers to access highly engaged and relevant local audiences.”
