Aston Villa chief Dr Tony Xia has responded to Mark Warburton’s claim that it was utter nonsense that he misled Joelon Lescott over the terms of his Ibrox deal.

Warbo, who used to work as a city trader, travelled south to meet the Aston Villa defender and charmed Lescott up the M74 to finalise the deal.

Once the terms of the Ibrox offer were put in front of him Lescott walked away leaving the Ibrox side to deflect attention away from their chronic finances.

Tales of failing a medical and family reasons didn’t wash with Xia and Roberto di Matteo who told Villa fans that the deal fell down due to personal terms.

Xia claimed that Warbo had misled the defender over personal terms but the Sevco chief was having none of that when he was questioned after yesterday’s win over Motherwell.

Warbo said: “Let me be really clear about this – it’s absolute nonsense.

“Personal terms were all agreed but the player just decided to keep his family in Manchester. He’s well settled with three young children. It’s absolute nonsense to say anything other than that.

“The fact he’s up here tells you that terms were agreed and there wasn’t a problem with that.”

Responding to the latest tit for tat in the exchange Xia tweeted:

As a man of dignity it’s likely that Warbo will surely respond to the latest statement from the disrespectful Villa chairman.
