It was a performance that excited and caught the imagination- something that can rarely be said about Celtic’s past efforts in the CIS/ Skol/ Coca Cola Cup.

This though was the Betfred but it was really about Scott and Moussa, resigned Tom and Jamsie plus older favourites like Broony and Callum.

Celtic tore Motherwell apart, and best of all it was just a marker, there’s more to follow. Bums-off-seats stuff when Patrick Roberts returns and Leigh Griffiths is terrifying defenders.

It was a great night to be a Celtic fan, some thoughts stretched towards a certain date in September but the realists wondered how the side would fare next week against Hapoel Beer Sheva.

No one really knows how Celtic will handle the Israeli champions but there is one thing that can be guaranteed- the guys in the dug out are switched on, tuned in and reacting to everything in front of them.

The tired and predictable 4-2-3-1 of the last two seasons is gone. True there was an 8-1 against Hamilton and 6-0 against Dundee but too many 0-0’s and games that tested the patience of season ticket holders- would you take your kids there to be entertained?

Again it’s early days but as Tom Rogic said, to quote Paul McStay, there is a buzz about the ground again, supporters are excited, talking about the players and making comparisons.

Mark McGhee expects some scorelines higher than 5-0, Brendan Rodgers believes that his side are getting better game by game.

Watch and enjoy the highlights, this isn’t the end, it’s only the beginning…
