Manuel De Sousa of Portugal will referee Tuesday’s Champions League qualifier between Borussia Monchengladbach and Celtic.

The 41-year-old has been taking charge of international matches for a decade and refereed Celtic’s 1-0 win over Elfsborg in a 2013 Champions League qualifier. Last season de Sousa took charge of his first Champions League group matches, handling games between BATE and Barcelona plus AA Gent against Zenit St Petersburg.

This season he took charge of the Dinamo Zagreb v Juventus Champions League match and the recent World Cup qualifier between Kazakhstan and Romania which ended in a 0-0 draw.

In the match between the two teams at Celtic Park a fortnight ago Greek referee issued a yellow card to each side with no real incidents of controversy to report.

After losing 2-0 in Glasgow to the German side Celtic realistically require to win in Germany to retain hope of finishing in third place to reach the last 32 of the Europa League.

If Gladbach beat Celtic they’ll be hoping that Barcelona can win at Manchester City to allow them to leapfrog Pep Guardiola’s side into second place in the Group before hosting City on matchday five.
