Brendan Rodgers is loving the old fashioned values of his Celtic squad.

The Irishman has made a couple of strategic changes to the squad that he inherited from Ronny Deila but there has been to clear-out of the squad that twice failed to reach the group phase of the Champions League.

Managing Liverpool was often about keeping certain personalities sweet as the Irishman attempted to find harmony in a dressing room that included Mario Balotelli, Luis Suarez, Raheem Sterling and others.

Despite inheriting a squad high on numbers Rodgers has found a dressing room free of agendas with the players concentrating their minds on carrying out the requests of their new manager.

So far the results have been spectacular. A year ago Celtic lost in Molde, tonight 60,000 will head to Celtic Park with realistic expectations of taking at least a point from the side that finished last season fourth in the Bundesliga.

The attitude around the whole of the club has been changed but at the heart of the matter most things boil down to players and the reaction from the dressing room.

You come up knowing it’s a good club and that there are good players, but I have been overwhelmed by how hungry they are to learn and get better,” Rodgers explained.

Am I surprised? Yes, because in the modern footballer there is a lot of ego but this group have no ego. We have set a standard from the first day and these guys are looking to deliver it.

They might not always be at their best, but they have given their best every single day and I think that tells you where we are at.

I have never heard a bad word amongst them. The spirit is great, they really galvanise each other.

It’s about improving players, that is what they are doing and they will get better as the season goes on.

Maybe some have an ego underneath. However, they have all bought into the idea that we have to be on one team and have one brain in that team. That it’s all for one common cause.

I am not here to fight with anyone or have a war with anyone, I am here to help make people better, and ultimately my responsibility is to develop the club. For that to happen, I need players who are committed to giving their best every day in training because unless you can do it for me in training, you can never do it in a game.

Each group is different, but what is so refreshing is to come into a group who are now preparing themselves as elite players by looking at their lifestyles and making sure they are ready for the demands which top level football brings.

For that you have to be physically and mentally correct.”

Tonight, against Gladbach, Rodgers will want to galvanise those qualities into a win that will give his side a great chance of enjoying European football after Christmas.
