Noel Gallagher couldn’t believe the atmosphere when he watched Manchester City draw 3-3 with Celtic.

The singer joined Rod Stewart and others as the two sets of players went for the jugular roared on by 60,000 fans delighted to be back in the Champions League.

Gallagher has never been shy about his affinity for Celtic although there is never any danger of split loyalties when it comes to anything that involves City.

Rodgers aim when he joined Celtic was to qualify for the Champions League and refill the empty seats that have crept in over the last decade.

The Manchester City match summed up everything about how Rodgers has turned Celtic around with the Irishman pleased to get a celebrity endorsement after the match.

The people I spoke to after the game- celebrities- said they had never heard anything like it,” Rodgers said.

I spoke to Noel Gallagher, who I’ve bumped into a few times at City. “The Brodge” he calls me! The last game he was at here was the 6-2 game against Rangers under Martin O’Neill and he said the City game was at another level in terms of noise.

We started the City game with great intensity and the crowd fed off that. It was a special night, although I was actually disappointed not to win the game, which is probably why I was a bit sullen afterwards.

But the performance of the players was brilliant and so were the supporters. The crowd don’t get to that level if the team aren’t performing but we do have a real special connection at the minute between the supporters and the players.”

Yesterday Borussia Monchengladbach were held to a 0-0 draw at home by second bottom SV Hamburg.

Since losing narrowly to Barcelona, Gladbach have lost to Schalke 04 and drawn with Hamburg who are both in the bottom three of the Bundesliga.
