Brendan Rodgers has told Jose Mourinho to forget about making a January bid for Moussa Dembele.

The Celtic striker scored twice against England’s u-21 side on Monday night to add to his reputation as one of the brightest young talents in Europe.

That form has prompted speculation that Manchester United are preparing to put in a bid but as he tries to build a team up Rodgers is adamant that his leading scorer won’t be on the move.

Responding to that news on TalkSPORT this morning Rodgers said: “We are realistic here, that was part of my role coming in here, accepting that if we have top talents they will move on. We seen it with Wanyama and Virgil van Dijk and Ki to Swansea.

Dembele is just a young kid, he has only just come in and he loves it here. It’s a huge club, there’s the support, he gets idolised here, he has Champions League football and he is really really enjoying this process of learning and playing for a big club.

I’m sure that at some point later down the line it might happen but it’s certainly not something that we are looking at just now.”

Celtic signed Dembele from Fulham during the summer in a £500,000 deal due to it being a cross border transfer that only required a compensation fee to be paid and gave the striker a four year contract.

In 24 appearances so far for Celtic Dembele has scored 16 goals including three in the Champions League against Manchester City and Borussia Monchengladbach.
