Brendan’s domestic regret

There is just one blot on Brendan Rodgers’ domestic record- a 2-2 draw away to Inverness Caley Thistle.

Since taking over from Ronny Deila the Irishman has guided Celtic to the final of the Betfred Cup and picked up nine wins and a draw in the SPFL.

Maintaining an unbeaten record is usually less stressful than keeping a 100% record but Rodgers still regrets the two points lost at Inverness through an 87th minute goal from Alex Fisher.

Managers rarely talk about revenge but it’s clear that the Celtic boss will be demanding something special tomorrow from his side when the highland side visit Glasgow.

“It’s testament to the players and their mentality but the Inverness game still rankles with me a bit,” Rodgers admitted. “We should have had ten wins out of ten but conceded late on.

“We put in a good performance that day, we just didn’t take our chances but I’m really happy with how the players are improving and want to ensure that there are no slip-ups before the international break.”

The draw at Inverness came on the back of a demoralising 7-0 defeat to Barcelona that posed some major questions about Rodgers and his squad.

Tomorrow Celtic line up against Caley Thistle buoyed up by a well deserved draw away to Borussia Monchengladbach.

As well as showing that they can mix it with the best teams on the continent Rodgers believes that there will be a domestic benefit from the point taken on Tuesday.

The performance the other night was very pleasing,” the Celtic boss added.

“We’re trying to build a dynamic team with a high intensity and work-rate in the game and can play a high level of football with style.

“The team showed that sort of development at this early stage. There’s still a long way to go but we showed confidence to impose our style.

“Qualifying is great but you have to have belief to impose that way of working and we have seen improvements from the Barcelona game.
