Celtic look like cashing in on one of the biggest transfer stories in English football.

According to a report in The Mirror Everton are the latest club to show an interest in Virgil van Dijk with bids likely to start at £40m.

Celtic sold van Dijk just over a year ago for £12m and are likely to have a sell on clause of between 10-15% on the profit for any future sale.

That could rake in between £4-6m for Brendan Rodgers- more than his entire summer spending.

At 25-years-old van Dijk has everything going for him in an era when genuine central defers are becoming an endangered specie.

With experience of the Champions League, Europa League, international football and the Premier League he has come on leaps and bounds since Neil Lennon splashed out £2.5 to Groningen in July 2013.

Liverpool and both Manchester clubs have been linked with van Dijk who signed a new six year contract in May less than a year after leaving Celtic.

Southampton allowed Victor Wanyama to reach the final season of his contract and only got a fee of £15m from Spurs in the summer. It could take three times that figure to take van Dijk away from the south coast but it appears that there is no lack of interest despite the price tag.

It’s believed that Southampton scouts are set to follow up impressive reports they’ve received on Sevco defender Clint Hill with a high powered delegation watching the former England prospect against Hearts tomorrow night..
