Hartson’s message to Strachan

|

John Hartson has never been known for side stepping issues that could be tackled head on.

As a player he worked with Gordon Strachan at Coventry and Celtic and knows as well as anyone how complex a character the Scotland boss is.

Following back-to-back 3-0 defeats Scotland’s World Cup prospects are as good as over with more than four months to go until the next batch of qualifiers.

Strachan didn’t let his pride get in the way when he stepped down as manager of Middlesboro and is now facing a similar situation with Scotland.

Rather than facing four months of criticism ahead of the next match at home to Slovenia Hartson expects his old gaffer to make way with qualification now a pipe-dream.

Scotland are in fifth place in Group F trailing England, Slovenia, Slovakia and Lithuania. Only the group winner will automatically qualify with eight of the nine European runners up going forward for four places.
