Aberdeen leapfrog Sevco into second place

Aberdeen bounced back from their defeat by Celtic to beat Partick Thistle 2-1 tonight at Firhill.

Goals from Anthony O’Connor and Jayden Stockley either side of a goal from Adam Barton gave the Dons full points after back-to-back defeats from Hamilton and Celtic.

The win puts Derek McInnes’ side into second place in the SPFL above Sevco with the winners of the Hearts v St Johnstone match also going above the Ibrox club ahead of their trip to face Ross County on Sunday.

With Thistle on a four match unbeaten run, including wins away to Dundee and St Johnstone, it was always going to be a tough test for the Dons but O’Connor’s first goal for the club six minutes before half time eased their nerves.

Barton equalised for Thistle six minutes into the second half but almost immediately Stockley restored the Dons lead with a brilliant chip from 25 yards out.
