Inter Milan have joined the race to sign Steven Gerrard.

According to a report in The Independent the Italian side have made contact about a playing role for the remainder of the current season.

Gerrard has spoken in the past about spending time on the continent similar to David Beckham who had spells with PSG and AC Milan as he wound his career down.

Inter are currently struggling in ninth place in Serie A but the prospect of playing at the San Siro is bound to hold some appeal to the former England skipper.

Gerrard announced on Tuesday that he was leaving LA Galaxy and was instantly linked with moves to Liverpool, Celtic and Newcastle United.

Brendan Rodgers spoke glowingly in reference to working with Gerrard at Liverpool but steered clear of discussing a contract offer for the 36-year-old.

Yesterday it emerged that MK Dons had made contact with Gerrard about their managerial vacancy but it’s unlikely that a move straight into management at a lower level will appeal.
