Hull City are set to open contract talks with Robert Snodgrass- who has six months left on his current deal.

The Scotland star has never hidden his love for Celtic and would be an obvious transfer target for Brendan Rodgers who could strike a pre-contract deal in January.

Snodgrass joined Hull from Norwich in a £6m deal in 2014 but suffered the horror or a serious knee injury on his Premier League debut at Queens Park Rangers.

The 29-year-old returned to full fitness 12 months ago and was a major force in Hull’s successful promotion bid under Stevie Bruce.

After a summer of discontent over budget concerns Bruce quit the club with the clock now running down on Snodgrass’s contract.

Previewing tonight’s EFL Cup tie with Newcastle, Mick Phelan was asked about the former Livingston player’s contract.

That will be taken care of in due course,” the Hull boss told Sporting Life. “We will pay attention to that as he is an important football player. We will be dealing with that pretty shortly.”

Snodgrass is bound to get offers from a number of English sides but is bound to be tempted by the prospect of playing for Rodgers and the possibility of Champions League football.
