Mark McGhee is set to challenge the SFA over a misconduct charge against Betfred Cup Final referee John Beaton.

Yesterday the Scotland assistant manager received a rap sheet from SFA Compliance Officer Tony McGlennan following Motherwell’s 2-0 defeat at Motherwell.

McGhee was furious that Beaton missed Dundee keeper Dave Mitchell carrying the ball over the line with the match goal-less.

After the match the Fir Park boss claimed that he hadn’t discussed the issue with Beaton but on December 1 he’ll appear before the SFA to face four charges including that he ‘used offensive, abusing, and/or insulting language towards a match official’.

According to The Sun McGhee will contest all four charges with Beaton set to appear at the hearing four days after taking charge of the Celtic v Aberdeen Betfred Cup Final.

This week the SFA will hear an appeal from Falkirk against the red card that Beaton handed out to Tom Tiawo during their 1-1 draw with Hibs on Saturday.
