Chris Sutton was quick to put Celtic’s European exit into perspective.
A 2-0 defeat from Barcelona while Borrusia Monchengladbach were drawing with Manchester City means that the hoops European adventure will end net month at the Etihad Stadium.
Sutton has watched the development of the side accelerate over the last four months and knows that his old club is moving in the right direction.

Tonight’s performance was a frustrating one for Brendan Rodgers as his side matched Barcelona in many areas and created a couple of decent scoring opportunities.
In the end, like countless other teams, Celtic had no answer to Lionel Messi whose goals in each half decided the match.
Although defeated and out of Europe Celtic fans have the priceless quality of hope about their side again with a manager and squad of players eager to lean and improve.
Next season’s European campaign starts at the Etihad Stadiun next month as Rodgers side face up to the bookies favourites for the Premier League.
