Mark Warburton takes his struggling Sevco side to Firhill tomorrow with a double whammy from Dave King ringing in his ears.
On Thursday afternoon the former city trader spoke optimistically about meeting his chairman to discuss his January transfer targets.
Tonight as he prepares for a match that could catapult his side into second place in the SPFL Warbo, who used to work as a city trader, is on the rocks knowing that he has little boardroom backing.
One more slip and he’ll be out the door looking for another club to buy into his footballing fantasies.
Sitting alongside Mr King at the AGM this morning Warbo heard his chairman say: “It is an ongoing requirement for Mark and his team to review and rotate the player pool to ensure that we are getting the best possible value for our investment in players and this must continue in the January transfer window.
“It is my belief that Rangers is presently well enough resourced to achieve our next major football objective – a return to Europe. A further investment in players will be required at that point.”
Not content with that put down King then spoke to the club’s television channel and put the boot into Warbo’s summer signings
King said: “I think he (Warbo) will admit certainly the summer transfer spending wasn’t as successful as it was the previous season.
“I know the standard is higher, but some of the players he has brought in – Joey Barton being a great example, he tied up a lot of wages but he didn’t perform for the manager.
“The manager then has to recycle that, and I think he has to keep looking, see what players are working in his squad, see what ones he may want to move on and which ones he might want to bring in.”
With two matches against Hearts and a visit from Aberdeen following tomorrow’s clash with Partick Thistle Warbo could well be binned before the Christmas decorations come down.
