Confused Mark Warburton has revealed that he may not make any January signings.

Warbo, who used to work as a city trader made 11 signings during the summer, and was warned by Dave King in the club accounts that his budget was significantly greater than all but one other SPFL side.

Five or six additions were planned but that figure was doubled including massive wage deals for Joey Barton and Nick Kranjcar as well as £1.8m spent on Joe Garner from Preston North End.

Expectations that the club would splash the cash in January have been played down leaving Warbo to work his magic in the loan market.

Asked if he’d be bringing in any loan signings by Sky Sports Warbo admitted: “We’ll look if possible, obviously if it is right to get a suitable loanee in, hopefully from a Premier League club, if it is available to us but if not there’s strength in the squad.

We have young Jordan Rossiter returning from injury, Matt Crooks getting nearer match fitness now as well so as I say give and take hopefully. We’ll miss Niko of course but there is some good young talent coming through the squad.”

Last week’s Sevco accounts revealed that a £2.75m emergency loan was received from directors in October to keep the lights on with a further loan expected in March. The club now owes directors £14m that is due for repayment in December 2017.

Also announced in the club accounts chairman King spelt out that results were anticipated in line with a budget significantly bigger than all bar one (Celtic) club.

It seems that second place is the minimum expected from Warbo with the club accounts anticipating European football next season.

Whether that means the qualifying stage or reaching the group phase remains unclear but as a new club with only the national co-efficient Sevco would need to get through four qualifying rounds against seeded opponents to pocket a £5m windfall from the Europa League.
