It was the understatement of the day on social media.

While wishing their youth side good luck ahead of facing Celtic at Lennoxtown the Edinburgh City twitter account admitted that the game would be a ‘big ask’.

It sure was with the young hoops scoring 21 times without reply!

The structure of the SFA Youth Cup usually avoids these type of mismatches but the Edinburgh side, who play in the SPFL Development League, were well out of their depth.

It took Celtic 21 minutes to open the scoring through Theo Archibald, by half-time the score was 10-0 with Calvin Miller grabbing a hat-trick between the 38th and 45th minutes.

After the break Mikey Johnston, Kristoffer Ajer and substitute Jack Aitchison completed hat-tricks with Sam Wardrop completing the scoring in the 88th minute.

The Edinburgh City twitter account opted out of updates from the match, switching their attention to the first team match with Montrose.
