Celtic have pulled out of negotiations with Portland Timbers to sign Darlington Nagbe.

According to a report in The Sun the player has been informed that the proposed £3m deal has been called off.

It seems that the Timbers were over ambitious in their negotiating with Celtic turning their attention elsewhere.

Nagbe attended the Celtic v Barcelona Champions League match and seemed keen to get himself onto the same stage.

The fee of £3m seemed on the high side for a 26-year-old who had never played outside of the MLS.

Nagbe has got 10 USA caps and is expected to resume his international career now that Bruce Arena has replaced Jurgen Klinsmann.

Brendan Rodgers has gone on record saying that he expects to add to his squad during the January transfer window, if the Nagbe deal is off the hoops boss is certain to have switched his attention to another midfield target.
