Everyone knows that Craig Thomson is a stickler for the rules.

As soon as a Celtic player celebrates a goal by stepping off the pitch- but not joining in celebrations with supporters- big Craigy will put on his reluctant face as he hands out a yellow card.

Rules and rules, or in football’s case laws are laws as the FIFA ref sticks rigidly to instructions.

Deliberate handball is also a booking offence but it seems that Thomson has a heart after all by applying common sense during last night’s 2-0 win for Hearts over Sevco.

In full view of the referee Kenny Miller used both hands to control the ball but the weight of the pass meant that he carried the ball over the touchline.

Yellow card surely? No, as a close up of Thomson showed he clearly viewed the incident and opted out of giving a yellow card to the former Vancouver Whitecaps strike ace.

With his new found approach to applying the laws of the game players and fans will look forward to similar decisions as the good fortune that Miller enjoyed last night.
