Nadir Ciftci is a January transfer target for Dundee United.

According to a report in The Sun Ray McKinnon has identified the former Tannadice favourite as the man to get the goals to fire up their promotion push.

United would only be able to offer to take Ciftci on loan with Celtic’s preference being to get a permanent deal for the 24-year-old.

Ciftci was used as a substitute in Celtic’s Champions League qualifiers against Lincoln Red Imps but hasn’t made a competitive appearance since July.

With Moussa Dembele and Leigh Griffiths competing for one place in Rodgers’ side it’s clear that there in no future for Ciftci at Celtic.

Ciftci signed a four year contract when he joined Celtic in a £1.5m deal from Dundee United in July 2015 but never looked at home despite Ronny Deila’s efforts to put him in the side.

With more than half of his contract still to run the striker will have the major say on when he leaves and on what terms.

Last season he went out on loan to Eskishirspor of Turkey for four months where he scored four goals in 11 appearances.
