The great Scottish football farce

A quick look towards the top of the SPFL Premier League and all those that created, agreed and signed up to the Five Way Agreement will be feeling very satisfied.

The old ways have been restored although how to tweak the top two positions around could prove more demanding and difficult.

It really is just like the old days in so many ways.

Eleven clubs playing by one set of rules and another that will do anything to attempt to justify their misguided superiority complex #goingfor55.

Unfortunately every club in the SPFL is equally guilty of allowing this state of affairs to happen.

In 2012 the SFA review, chaired by Lord Carloway, into what Rangers (IL) got upto in the 2011/12 season concluded that: “Only match fixing in its various forms might be a more serious breach. They brought the game into serious disrepute.

In the case of the non payment of tax, which was possibly by the smallest margin the most serious breach, the massive extent of the failure and the intentional and calculated manner in which it was carried out aggravated the breach even further.”

This time around HMRC is safe, it’s the other clubs that are missing out on points and players on bonuses by playing against a club that is completely unsustainable and propped up by soft loans on mysterious terms.

The need for financial transparency in Scottish football is overwhelming but no individual or club dares to mention it.

Aberdeen and Hearts could have won at Ibrox over the last ten days if they’d decided to blow an extra £10m beyond their means on wages and transfer fees.

Both clubs have flagged up FFP in their annual accounts but every week they are suffering by allowing a competitor to do as they please.

At the end of the season they may make an issue of it as they are denied a Europa League place but selling season tickets to fans who’ve suffered week in week out might need more convincing than expected.
