Kieran Tierney is on target to return to action after the winter break.

The teenage defender suffered ankle ligament damage at the end of October but has now got back on the training ground stepping up his recovery.

Yesterday he was pictured running alongside Scott Allan at Lennoxtown with the midfielder back from a loan spell at Rotherham for treatment on an injury.

While Emilio Izaguirre has been a very able stand-in for Tierney there’s no doubt that the younger left-back is the first pick in that position.

Tierney was one of the few players to emerge from last season under Ronny Deila with his reputation enhanced and has continued that form this season.

Brendan Rodgers instantly recognised his ability and has helped develop that talent and was rewarded with solid displays in the qualifiers and in the opening three Champions League group matches.

Tierney suffered a broken ankle in training in December 2014 but bounced back to make his first team debut five months later.

During his current spell on the sidelines he underwent an operation on his shoulder but now looks close to full fitness and ready to resume his place in Rodgers’ team.
