Why a UEFA licence could kill off the Sevco dream

It looks like Dave King’s demands for European football could backfire on Sevco.

With Resolution 12 of the 2013 still to be resolved licensing issues are attracting more and more attention with the terms involved slowly unravelling.

The level of losses at Ibrox ought to be a concern with the club wholly reliant on benefactors. That should be a worry on it’s own rather than the fact that it should restrict or even deny European football next season.

In 2011 little was known about UEFA licences, as 2016 turns into 2017 fans are getting very clued up with Hearts and Aberdeen supporters determined that their clubs don’t lose out again to a club that seems immune to the rules that govern everyone else in the game.

Providing a very useful guide to supporters and shareholders of those clubs the website International Sports Law lays out exactly what is involved in licensing including the sanctions that UEFA can apply.

From the report it seems that getting into the Europa League qualifiers would be the worst thing possible for Sevco’s domestic hopes.

As soon as they appear in qualifiers Sevco would be subject to UEFA Financial Fair Play rules which would bring a swift halt to the massive losses that they have racked up in their four years of life under the SFA.

Had the SFA applied the same laws to the domestic game Sevco could look forward to playing in the Europa League with confidence.

As it stands a Europa League place would shine a torch into some murky areas that could set the club back- perhaps terminally.
