Mark McGhee’s handshake problem

For the second time this year Mark McGhee has had handshake problems against Celtic.

Whether it’s Ronny Deila or Chris Davies it seems that getting beaten is still as sore as it was when McGhee was part of Alex Ferguson’s Aberdeen side of the early eighties.

Losing is never enjoyable but a two second Mourinho/Wenger style handshake kills the issue stone dead and allows McGhee to resume the nice guy image that he has as Scotland number two.

Too complicate matters by claiming that he didn’t know the name of the Celtic assistant manager was childish. That was either a complete lie or the Scotland assistant manager is badly failing in his job.

As recently as April McGhee was playing at silly games, ignoring Deila’s offer of a handshake in order to shake hands with John Kennedy after a 2-1 defeat at Fir Park.

The Daily Mail reported: ‘Asked if he had blanked Deila’s handshake,’ he replied: ‘That’s not true…I have nothing to say about that, not a thing.’

‘However, McGhee then told BBC Scotland: ‘What actually happened was, at the beginning of the game, I felt as if when I went over to shake hands with the Celtic staff they blanked me.

‘I’ve spoken to Ronny about it and it was a total, 100 per cent misunderstanding on my part, and I accept totally he didn’t see me. That’s fine, and he and I have shaken hands.’

It seems that things were less than fine yesterday for the Motherwell boss, again.
