Paul Lambert is enjoying management again in charge of Wolves.

The former Celtic skipper seemed to age on a weekly basis while he was in charge of Aston Villa.

A stint at Blackburn last season proved to be little more than fire fighting before the job at Wolves came up in November following the sacking of Walter Zenga.

The Midlands side have been called sleeping giants for decades with the occasional visit to the top flight quickly followed by relegation.

Mick McCarthy and Mark McGhee have had spells in charge trying to turn the club around but the game has changed since the glory days of Billy Wright in the fifties.

Rather than living in the shadows of past greats Lambert is inspired by the club’s history and feels that he has a chance of emulating and surpassing the successes that he achieved with Wolves.

“It’s a brilliant infrastructure here,” he told the local Express and Star. “What’s happened in the summer happened, so you come in and try and assess things pretty quickly.

“It’s a brilliant club with a really good fanbase behind it but for me the most important thing is the supporters and the players are right with each other.

“And any successful club that I’ve been at, be it Borussia Dortmund or Celtic, the fans and players have a massive rapport.”

Looking at the win over Villa he added: “It’s just three points. Aston Villa’s a club I’ve got a lot of respect for.

“My team were brilliant. We’ve been brilliant for the last few weeks, without getting results.

“You can feel and sense that we’re vibrant, energetic, our pressing is great and everything about our game at the moment is really strong. I don’t think we were really under pressure.”
