Matt Crooks couldn’t hide his delight at joining Scunthorpe United on loan from Sevco.

Rather than looking at a 19 point gap to the team above, the Irons are only four points behind League One pace setters Sheffield United.

I’m buzzing to be here,” the former Accrington ace told the Scunthorpe United website

“I just can’t wait to get started now. There’s nothing like playing games, and that’s what I’ve come here to do.

“It’s been very stop-start (at Rangers). I was injured for all of pre-season and the start of the campaign, so I’ve not played much football.

“That’s what I’ve come here to do, to get some games under my belt again.”

Crooks signed a pre-contract agreement with Sevco a year ago and arrived in the summer with high hopes of success.

Despite six months training under star-maker Mark Warburton he only managed to make one starting appearance for Sevco- in the 2-0 defeat away to Hearts at Tynecastle.

With Sevco now bringing in two new wonder kids from Arsenal and Bournemouth it’s unlikely that Crooks will get a second chance at Ibrox.

On Saturday Crooks will be hoping to win a place in Graham Alexander’s side away to Northampton.

It’s believed that another six players from the first team squad could be sent out on loan.
