Leigh Griffiths moved quickly to reassure Celtic fans that there was nothing to read in to his absence from the team that beat Albion Rovers today.

After a three week break peppered up by a week’s training in Dubai the Scotland man failed to make the bench for the Scottish Cup tie.

Yesterday Celtic were closely linked with a move for Henry Onyekuru adding to rumours that Griffiths may be on his way out of Celtic.

As he looked on Scott Sinclair opened the scoring with a glorious striker following good lead up work from Kieran Tierney.

The teenager was playing his first game in almost three months but showed no signs or rustiness on the plastic pitch of Airdrie’s Shyberry Stadium.

Rovers held out against a second goal until the 77th minute when Moussa Dembele scored his 20th goal of the season with Stuart Armstrong completing the scoring in the final minute.

In the draw for the fifth round Celtic were given a home tie against Inverness Caley Thistle, Steven McLean isn’t expected to referee that match.
