It was one of many great memories of 2016- the light show salute to the Lisbon Lions.

Towards the end of the year some bright spark decided that it was time to honour Celtic’s greatest ever team on a game by game basis.

As the clock ticks towards the 67th minute it’s time to remember and on go the phones.

On Saturday at Ibrox, even with a 12.15 kick off, the mobile phones of the Celtic support lit up the ground as a reminder of the achievement that pushed Dave Murray into chasing the dream.

While Jock Stein won the European Cup on a £30,000 budget used to sign Willie Wallace the cost of Murray’s failure could reach £200m if HMRC have their tax case victory upheld at the Supreme Court.

Of more immediate concern for the Celtic support was finding a winning goal with Scott Sinclair obliging in the 70th minute.

The Lisbon Lions picked up five trophies in season 66/67 but were denied an unbeaten league record by two defeats from Dundee United, fortunately for Brendan Rodgers the Tannadice side are spending this season in The Championship.
