Brendan Rodgers is looking forward to Celtic improving in 2017.

Celtic signed off 2016 with a string of single goal victories as the squad was chopped and changed to navigate through nine demanding fixtures.

Full points domestically and a credible draw away to Manchester City in the Champions League would keep most managers happy but in a sensible way it seems that Rodgers will always be looking for more from his side.

The last six months of 2016 were a great period for us as a club and the supporters are happy which is important,” the Irishman told the club website. “The players are also happy and working well and we are gaining results and that’s what we are in the business to do.

In 2017, we want more and we need to do better. We want to do better in improving the level of our game and looking to press and looking to progress and that’s something this early part of January allows us to do.”

Rodgers is still looking to do business during the January transfer window with half a dozen players available for sale or to go out on loan.

It’s expected that one more signing will be made with most guesswork being on another midfielder being brought in.

Kouassi Eboue should be available for Sunday’s Scottish Cup tie against Albion Rovers with a visa expected to be completed now that he has been given a UK work permit.

After that cup tie Celtic have home matches against St Johnstone, Hearts and Aberdeen in an eight day period.
