Brendan Rodgers has saluted is history makes.

Today’s 4-0 win over Hearts took the current side beyond the 26 match unbeaten run that the Lisbon Lions created 50 years ago.

Rodgers was born towards the end of Celtic’s 9-in-a-row era and has a keen knowledge of the club’s history.

Since 1967 some of the greatest players in the club’s history have attempted to hit the magical 27 mark but fallen short.

“If you look over the course of the great history of this club and this is a club that has a history there’s no question about that,” The Sun reported the hoops boss saying

“It’s been 129 years so for the players to break that record that was held by such a great team here.

“We are very privileged and very proud to do that.

“I said to the players afterwards that we have to keep pushing. You stand on your own now within that domestic run.

“But we keep going and keep going and win as many games as we possibly can.

Rodgers side won’t have much time to reflect on their landmark victory with Aberdeen visiting on Wednesday night.

This afternoon Celtic still came out on top despite being without Moussa Dembele, Leigh Griffiths, Tom Rogic and Stuart Armstrong.

Callum McGregor opened the scoring in the first half before a late goal rush that saw Scott Sinclair notch a double either side of a goal from Patrick Roberts.

The win re-establishes Celtic’s 22 point lead at the top of the table- after 22 matches.
