The farce of the tribute act hit court today with one punter claiming that Coral refused to pay out on a £100 bet that Rangers would be relegated in 2012.

Pensioner Albert Kinloch placed a £100 bet at odds of 2500/1 a few months before the club went into administration in February 2012.

With the club forced into liquidation in June 2012 there was no Rangers in the 2012/13 SPL with Kinloch claiming that that deserved a payout.

As ever James Doleman was in court to provide the best coverage of the debate which goes to the heart of the survival myth quietly put out by the football authorities.

What the myth fails to cover is some uncomfortable facts such as:

a) Why was the liquidated club not in the 2012/13 SPL?

b) Who were the new club admitted to the 2012/13 SFL Third Division?

c) Why did the liquidated club not take part in the 2012/13 Champions League qualifiers with Motherwell taking their place?

d) Why did the new club enter the 2012/13 League Cup at the first round?

e) Why did the new club enter the 2012/13 Scottish Cup at the first round?

f) How much money did the new club get for the transfers of Steven Naysmith, Steven Whittaker, John Fleck and Allan McGregor?

While Kinloch’s argument that relegation meant that Rangers weren’t in the 2012/13 SPL Coral are contesting the way that the bet was placed.

The case will continue with James Doleman providing the best coverage.
