Modern day Celtic fans have followed in the footsteps of their forefathers by raising over £4,000 for St Mary’s, Calton in 24 hours.
The home of Celtic, where the idea of forming a football club was hatched in November 1887, was recently vandalised with £7,000 of damage caused.
Insurance covered £3,000 leaving a shortfall of £4,000 with a Go Fund Me page set up to collect donations.
Celtic fans quickly responded passing the £3,000 mark by midnight on Monday, the day that the finding page was launched.
Overnight fans worldwide donated to the cause taking the sum past £4,000 with additional money being used to help good causes in the area..
There were no major donors with the majority of fans putting £5, £10 or £20 into the fund and sharing the news on social media.
The £4,000 raised comes on the back of over £9,000 being raised on Saturday to pay for future Green Brigade tifo displays.
With a surplus raised from that project £1,967 was donated to Alzheimer Scotland on Monday.
