As well as the team having a record breaking season on the park the Celtic support has been having an exceptional season off the park.

The introduction of a Safe Standing area has brought fresh energy to the Green Brigade who have responded with some great new songs to add to the atmosphere inside the stadium.

Local bhoy Kieran Tierney has revealed that he has been the dressing room translator passing on to his team-mates the songs of praise coming from the fans.

Down the generations Celtic fans have been well known for the way that they can adapt popular songs and tunes towards their heroes on the park.

In the sixties You’ll Never Walk Alone became an anthem, a decade later We Are Sailing was borrowed from Rod Stewart.

During the darkest days of the early nineties Always Look on the Bright Side was sung ironically while The Fields of Athenry was added to the song book.

More recently Just Can’t Get Enough has enjoyed a revival thanks to the Green Brigade but this season five great songs have accompanied the successes on the park.

GRACE

Was introduced at the start of the season recognising the short lived marriage between Joseph Plunkett and Grace Gifford at the time of the Irish Rebellion.

Normally sung early in the second half it reached a massive audience during Celtic’s Champions League clash with Manchester City and has been taken up by supporters of the Irish national team.

Over the last few months supporters have taken to raising their scarves YNWA style while singing Grace.

BOYATA

Short and sweet it plays a little on the Glaswegian accent but is without doubt a catchy number that is hard to get out of your mind.

Until last month Boyata was out of the mind of most supporters but over the last half dozen matches the once forgotten defender has returned to the team with style.

Brendan Rodgers belief in the former Manchester City defender surprised fans who watched last season’s nervy defender but with a song in his honour it looks like Boyata is here to stay, unlike Jason.

SCOTT SINCLAIR

This one has taken a lot of thought and effort as Supertramps ‘The Logical Song’ adapted to praise Celtic’s goal scoring signing from Aston Villa.

The lyrics require some dedication to stay with but like a run from Sinclair once it’s in full flow it’s hard to stop.

With his goalscoring form the song is more and more apt, perhaps before the end of the season Scotty will manage to score while the fans are in full force.

IN THE HEAT OF LISBON

It has been around for a couple of years but has taken on new importance as the 50th anniversary of the Lisbon season is remembered and celebrated.

With the mobile phone switch on at the 67th minute followed by ITHOL there’s no danger of the exploits in Lisbon being forgotten by younger generations.

At the Betfred Cup Final in November Lisbon Lion Bertie Auld certainly gave the song his approval!

BRENDAN RODGERS

This one emerged during the close season from a Spanish holiday resort, back then it was a hymn of hope rather than expectation.

From day one, skipping past a trip to Gibraltar, the Irishman has delivered beyond the expectations of almost all fans.

Expectations were high but the rehabilitation of James Forrest, Tom Rogic, Stuart Armstrong, Mikael Lustig and now Dedrck Boyata certainly wasn’t expected when season tickets were being snapped up.
