As if life wasn’t cruel enough to Mark McGhee the fixture list sends him to Celtic Park on Saturday.
After losing seven goals, getting sent to the stand and having your anger posted all over social media the Motherwell boss has to take his side to a venue where they have lost 7-0, 5-0 and 2-0 in the last calendar year.
McGhee and Brendan Rodgers crossed paths at Reading before their careers headed off in vastly different directions. As the Scotland assistant fights a losing battle with anger management Rodgers is in complete control of his club, team and players and pushing for a record breaking season.
Saturday’s match will have the home fans rolling up expecting another goal feast led by Moussa Dembele chasing a hat-trick of hat-tricks.
Rodgers will have a few team issues to mull over- the biggest being in central defence. Jozo Simunovic has recovered from a shoulder injury but will have to remove Dedryck Boyata or Erik Sviatchenko from the side.
On the bench Stuart Armstrong and Leigh Griffiths are expected to return but Patrick Roberts remains out injured along with Tom Rogic.
Post Lisbon, there has rarely been a better time to be a Celtic fan, almost everything seems to be progressing in the right direction led by a manager who cares but who is utterly ruthless.
It’s not been a good week so far for McGhee, as the manager of a side that once lost 9-0 to Celtic he’ll know that things could be a good deal worse by tea-time on Saturday.
