Craig Gordon is expected to complete a new long term Celtic contract within the next week.

Despite intensive speculation that he would be on his way to Chelsea the keeper will be in place for tonight’s match against Aberdeen.

All sorts of incredible figures were banded about guessing about the money he could earn warming the bench at Chelsea with a new Celtic deal underway.

Gordon signed a three year contract in 2014 then added 12 months onto that with another contract in 2015 after an outstanding first season back in the game.

It has been reported that Gordon’s basic wage is around £12,000/week which could be raised to around £20,000/week on a contract that runs until 2020 or 2021.

Over recent seasons Celtic have been very fortunate with Gordon picked up for free, Fraser Forster costing £1.5m and Artur Boruc £900,000.

Throughout the speculation about Chelsea Brendan Rodgers was adamant that the keeper wasn’t leaving and has aligned himself strongly with the player.

Ensuring a significant new contract for the keeper will further cement the Irishman’s position of power within Celtic Park as he pushes ahead with planning for another Champions League campaign.
