Celtic target Henry Onyekuru is hoping that he has did enough to earn a call up to the Nigerian international squad.

The Eupen striker was at the centre of speculation last month about a move to Celtic and was left out for a couple of matches as the Belgian side attempted to arrange other deals.

Eupen dropped towards the foot of the table during the stand-off but the 19-year-old returned to the side and scored the winning goal away to Gent on February 11 with Eupen following that up with another win last weekend at home to Kortrijk.

Those back-to-back wins have lifted Eupen up to 12th place in the 16 team league with Onyekuru hoping that with 11 goals for the season he can force his way into the Nigeria squad.

It will be great to play for my country and I hope to get the chance to do that one day,” he told Complete Sports Nigeria.com.

“Nigeria is blessed with a lot of good strikers which is good for the country. To get into the team, one has to continue doing well at the club level.

“I have made a big statement with my performance this season, but I need to be consistent to continue being in the spotlight.

“I’m still young and it’s important that I keep working hard to gain the attention of the coaches.”

If Celtic are to progress with a transfer they would require a work permit, breaking into the Nigeria international side would help that purpose but also bring the striker to the attention of other clubs.
