Brendan Rodgers is keeping his views on Scott Brown playing against England to himself.

The Celtic skipper retired from international football at the start of this season but returned to face England at Wembley in November.

Brown will be named in Gordon Strachan’s squad to face Slovenia next month but the game against England is just ten days before Celtic start their pre-season training for next season’s Champions League qualifiers.

Rodgers was happy to discuss Brown playing against Slovenia but with huge stakes at play for reaching the Champions League group stage a decent break for the Celtic skipper would be priceless.

Asked about Brown playing against England Rodgers told The Sun: “Scott knows my view on that and in terms of the longer term for him.

So with that view, I would only speak to him but I think after this game he will probably sit and look at it and see where it’s at for a more definite period.”

After four matches in Group F Scotland are sitting in fifth place with only Malta below Strachan’s side- the only team that Scotland have beaten.

Group F is probably the weakest of all the European qualifying groups with Slovenia, Slovakia and Lithuania above Scotland with England topping the group.

The eight best placed runners up will play off for four places at the World Cup Finals in March.
