Sevco chiefs have knocked back Kenny Miller’s plea for a new one year contract.

Mark Warburton has been banging on about new deals for Miller and Clint Hill at every opportunity but that has made little impression on the cash strapped Ibrox board.

According to reports in the Daily Record and in The Sun Miller held talks with the company and was offered nothing in return despite being their top Premiership scorer with six goals.

Leaking details of those talks to the media won’t have done the striker any favours.

Since he signed his last contract the 37-year-old former Vancouver Whitecaps goal machine has watched with interest as Joey Barton, Nico Kranjcar, Pip Senderos, Jordan Rossiter and Joey Garner have been handed contracts which dwarf his own deal.

With a going concern warning in the club’s last audited accounts and second place in the SPFL under real threat it would be natural for a spending review to be underway at Ibrox but bizarrely finance chief Stewart Robertson claimed at the start of the season that the company didn’t work to a budget.

One possible solution would be to give Miller an increased contract as player-manager for next season with the veteran already helping out with the club’s disastrous Development side who have won six out of 19 matches played this season.
