Lennon hits back at Duffy

Image for Lennon hits back at Duffy

Neil Lennon has launched a blistering attack on Jim Duffy claiming that his clash with the Morton boss was worse than his head-to-head with Ally McCoist in 2011.

Like McCoist Duffy’s good guy image slipped as his anger spilled over as he raced into the Hibs technical area to confront Lennon.

After the match Lennon claimed that Duffy had challenged him to a square go- a claim that Duffy denied on the Morton website.

The two teams meet at Cappielow next Saturday which probably has the smallest, tightest dug-outs in the Championship.

From the Directors Box the managers are also virtually on top of the pitch with fireworks looking certain when the two teams come face to face again.

Reflecting on Wednesday’s clash and the aftermath Lennon told The Sun: “I’m not happy with the statement Morton put out yesterday, where they referred to me as ‘the Hibs manager’.

They didn’t even have the good grace or courtesy or manners to call me by my name. So I’ll refer to their manager as the Morton manager going forward.

I wasn’t happy with the Morton manager’s comments after the game, trying to make light of what was a pretty serious incident.

Then he’s basically saying he doesn’t want to get into a public debate with me which is ironic really because he’s never off phone-ins.

And he’s got a column in the paper which is always open for public debate. Maybe he thinks it’s one that he won’t win.”

Lennon added: “It’s far worse than the spat I had with Ally McCoist – that was just verbal.

Sometimes when people get involved and there’s pushing and pulling, it looks worse than what it is. This one is very serious indeed.”

Wednesday’s draw leaves Hibs ten points ahead of Morton who have a game more to play.

A win at Cappielow for the Edinburgh side could clinch promotion depending on tomorrow’s results, Hibs travel to Dunfermline with Morton across the Clyde at Dumbarton.

The SFA have still to make any statement on the events at Easter Road.
