New Norway captain Stefan Johansen wants to lead like Broony!

The Fulham midfielder spent two and a half seasons at Celtic as Brown led the hoops through good and bad times.

Johansen was signed by Neil Lennon, sold by Brendan Rodgers and spent the bulk of his time with Celtic working with Ronny Deila.

Brown was captain under all three with Johansen taking note as he takes the armband from an old foe of Celtic, Lars Lagerback.

This is a fantastic honour for me,” the midfielder said. “I have played with some amazingly good captains in my career.

I had Scott Brown, who has been captain of Celtic for many years.

There was Per Ciljan Skjelbred on the national team and I am now playing with Scott Parker at Fulham who has had a fantastically good career. I have learned something from them all.”

Johansen will captain Norway against Northern Ireland on Sunday needing a win in Belfast to have any chance of success in their group.

With three points from four matches in Group C it looks like Lagerback is already planning for the 2020 European Championship campaign.

Northern Ireland, Azerbaijan and the Czech Republic are in contention for second place with Germany way out in front with a 100% record.

Eight of the nine runners up will qualify for the play-offs with four of them joining the nine group winners in Russia.
